About the Lazio Region Geoportal.

The Regional Geoportal is the single point of access to geographic information produced and managed by the various articulations of the Lazio Region; it is the most important and obvious component of the broader Territorial Data Infrastructure (IDT), which presents, in addition to the Geoportal, a whole series of additional services and functionalities for the management of cartographic data.

The Regional Infrastructure has been operational since 2018, is managed by the Regional Territorial Information System Area of the Directorate for Housing Policies and Territorial, Landscape and Urban Planning, of the Lazio Region, with the technical support of the in-house company LazioCrea S.p.A.

The Regional IDT has been realized in accordance with the precepts of the European Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, which establishes an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) and defines the rules for the organization of geographic databases of significant value for the environment. The regional platform has been realized using all open source software; the developed code is in turn released in open source mode and can be requested for reuse by all Public Administrations, in accordance with the dictates of the Digital Administration Code.

With Regional Council Resolution no. 26 of December 19, 2016, the Lazio Region approved the ''Governance Document'' of the Spatial Data Infrastructure, within which the different flows of operation of the platform are detailed and, in particular, to whom is entrusted the responsibility for the publication and management of cartographic data; In fact, the document specifies that the Geoportal is a tool dedicated to all regional structures, whether areas, agencies or companies managed by the Regional Administration, all of which have the possibility, but also the responsibility, to publish the data they produce and manage for competence, on the platform, in order to make such data shared, accessible and interoperable.

The D.G.R. n. 26/2016 was then reinforced by the Resolution of the Regional Council n. 553 of October 2, 2018 (''Provisions regarding the use of the Regional Spatial Data Infrastructure, the Geotopographic Database and related Numerical Regional Technical Map''), which makes it mandatory to use the Regional Geotopographic Database (DBGT), and therefore the Numerical Regional Technical Map (CTRN) derived from the DBGT, as the reference cartographic basis for the reconnaissance activities of the Regional Administration.

The Geoportal offers access to the geographical information published by the competent structures of the Lazio Region; these data are divided into specific categories in order to facilitate the search. The published data are all accompanied by appropriate metadata, which provide further details on the origin of the data, the referent and clearly the content; these metadata are then shared with the National Directory of Spatial Data (RNDT), managed by the Agency for Digital Italy (AGID). All data published on the regional platform, if made accessible to the public by their respective referents, are associated with a Creative Commons By 4.0 license, which allows the download and reuse for any purpose, even for profit, provided that the regional origin of the data used is indicated.
